Epistemology in general is the accumulated knowledge in an area. With a person, it’s their past history. In NLP, it includes the works of Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, Carl Jung, Gregory Bateson, Noam Chomsky, Moshe Feldenkrais and Edward T Hall. By studying the basis for a subject, we can acquire a depth of understanding. It is easy to spout superficial rhetoric without knowing the limitations of the research. Either we end up with bumper sticker philosophy or the research gets twisted and distorted like a game of Chinese Whispers.
